Used pink sherpa berber (ultra soft) for the backing for extra softness for baby.

Farewell to my Father

For the past 7 plus years I have bounced back and forth between Alberta and Toronto after my father had a stroke.  The past couple of years have brought on new challenges and disabilities with several types of cancer taking over his body.  This week we said good bye to him after a long and very brave battle.

My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 1994, he took care of her on his own for as long as he could.  He missed her companionship desperately.  What a grand reunion it is in heaven as eternal companions are reunited.

These flowers are my tribute to my go to guy who had all of the answers I ever needed, he taught me so much.

This was when I met my granddaughter for the first time at 18 months old.   Living across the country has been rough when it comes to building relationships with grandchildren.

I love the look of the tattered hexagons under the photo and mat.  I always let my Best Glue Ever dry a little bit before placing paper pieces then if I make a mistake in placing them, I can easily lift and reposition.

Happy New Year 2017

2016 has been a very tough year for our family with the loss of one of my sons.  I broke three bones in my foot at the end of May and then spent 5 months with my dad, who has been through five weeks of radiation treatments for a massive tumour that was on the side of his neck.  His skin cancer has unfortunately spread to his lymph nodes and lungs.

I added some great tools to my arsenal this past year.  Hoping to find more time to create in the coming months.

1.  Silhouette Cameo 3 - This was my Christmas gift this year but I haven't had much time to play with it yet.  Looking forward to the new features and especially being able to cut thicker materials.

2.  Silhouette Mint - Another Christmas gift and so far I have only created a Shabby Chalet stamp and absolutely love it.


Can't wait to play.

DecoFrame Card

I have been a fan of foil for years.  This past year I tried decofoil from therm-o-web and I love it!  I have also discovered that they have a plethora of other products such as these decoframes.

The deco frames are self adhesive so easily placed wherever you want them.  I used foam dots to raise my stamped image above the frame.

First Birthday

Saturday was a first birthday for one of my grandsons.  I was fortunate to be in this part of the country during his birthday celebration.  This is the first time that I have been able to help with any decorations.

                                                                                                                                                                         



My daughter chose a fishing theme and started with the fun streamers and white bubbles (balloons.)

I was assigned the banner and this is what I came up with.   The small letters and paper pieces are all glued on with ScraPerfect's Best Glue Ever.   It uses only a tiny amount and the fine tip applicator is perfect for tiny pieces of paper.   With the help of my Cameo and the Silhouette Studio software, I designed a fish shape and some banners.

Of course we had to have some crawdads hanging out with the bottom feeders.   The crab, hook and work are from the Silhouette Design Store.  

... and this is the celebratory birthday highchair.

I have a request from my 2 year old granddaughter for a princess party banner for her 3rd birthday November.  I better get working on it.

Sugar 'n Spice Foil

The pink and silver foils don't show up well in photographs but I certainly had fun making this little frame for my nieces little baby.  Brielle makes me a great aunt.
My original design was for a portrait orientation as per the design in the Silhouette Design Store.  When I went to Michaels and found this cute frame, I decided that I needed to adjust the design to fit a landscape orientation.

The frame is from a new collection at Michaels. 

I used both pink and silver  Heidi Swapp foils and the Minc machine.  I have found a Brother pinter that evenly and perfectly prints the laser ink to provide a very smooth surface for foiling with no pinholes.  

This was my original layout. 

Baby Tic Tac Toe

My second washi card is for my niece who just had a baby girl.  I have two versions of this card - the first is hand made and the second one is designed with the Silhouette Studio software.

I think this is the first washi tape that I ever bought, I believe it was from Smash.

This is a different version that I designed for print and cut with the Silhouette Studio software instead of using rubber stamps.

Washi Banner Card

Lately it seems as though I have accumulated a rather large number of washi tapes and feeling like I can't possibly use them all in this life time.  I have decided to create some cards to see if I can put a dent in my washi collection.

This is the first of my cards.

I have just folded the washi tape in half over baker's twine and trimmed to create a mini banner.  Super simple.  The tapes are mostly from the newer Recollections collections and the kraft card is also Recollections.

The stamp is from Hero Arts.

The hexagons were left over from a scrapbook page that I am working on for my granddaughter, so I decided to turn the into a quickie card.  

Bokeh Card

This is my version of a Bokeh style card.

Materials:
Cold pressed watercolour paper
Tim Holtz Distressed Ink Pads
- Peeled Paint
- Evergreen
- Brushed Corduroy
- Broken China
Water spritzer
White pigment pad
Make-up sponge
Circle stencils in assorted sizes
Rubber stamp
Stayzon ink pad



The background was done with Distress Ink Pads pressed on a  teflon mat and spritzed with water.

I tried using a white pigment pad for the circles but my pad was too dry so I substituted gesso and a stencil brush to get my Bokeh effect.

Happy Spring

For the first time that I can ever remember, March has come in like a lion and it has gone out like a lion.  Spring is here and I'm looking forward to warmer weather, hopefully it is coming soon.  I made this little card to hopefully speed up the spring process.

Patterned card stocks and bakers twine and sentiment are from Anthology by Lisa Bearnson.  The black eyes are actually Pearler Beads that I melt in the oven to create my own enamel dots.  I like to attach them with Scraperfect's Best Glue Ever.

Family Reunion Chalkboard Paper Banner

Cameo is the greatest tool in cutting out shapes for banners.   I just cut them out then used a Marvy Bistro Chalkboard Marker to do the lettering and added a bit of twine.  My lettering isn't the greatest but this made for a pretty instant banner for our reunion in Lehi, Utah.

Baby Shower

I recently helped a friend work on a few things for a baby shower.  The sex of the baby is unknown so the colour scheme is yellow and mint.  We decided to use a onesie for the banner.  Quite happy with how it turned out.

I also made headers for macaroons in yellow and mint.

Happy Birthday to my wonderful husband.  I am so blessed to have him in my life, we just have the "most muchester" fun together.  I am always shocked at how fast the birthdays seem to roll around.  We need to find more opportunities to stop and enjoy life - to let it slow down for just a few minutes.

This is his card and he hasn't seen it yet, very excited to give it to him.  He is my own private pop star and I wanted to make him a card that would reflect his love for music playing the guitar.

I couldn't find a Gibson font anywhere so I traced lettering to create one, I have used it for both print and cut and for cutting vinyl.

I used silver metallic vinyl for the lettering and numbers.  The Happy Birthday, also in a Gibson font is printed on the base of the card.  I used my Silhouette Cameo to make sure everything was lined up and the Happy Birthday would show through in the right spot.  The lettering on the pic is also in silver vinyl.  The silver metallic threads are held into place with Scraperfect's Best Glue Ever.

Today I am posting a recipe for Rice Krispie treats that I made for a Canada Day Celebration.  If you are ever going to eat Rice Krispie Squares - this is the time to do it. 

Rice Krispie ~ Caramel Topping

1/2 c margarine  375 gram bag of mini marshmallows 9 c Rice Krispies (you can do this in the microwave, I prefer stovetop) This is for a 9 x 13 pan ~ I found this was too deep. I use a jellyroll pan or large cookie sheets. Toffee 1 C margarine or butter 1 c brown sugar 4 Tbsp white corn syrup 1 can eagle brand milk Melt stirring constantly  boil for 10 minutes let cool for 10 minutes then pour over cooled Rice Krispie squares

Copic Marker Storage and Organization

It has been a while since I have posted how I organize my marker collection.

My Copic collection started several years ago with 5 Ciao markers from Curry's because that was all I could find in Toronto, my Ciao collection grew to 18.  Once Michaels started to carry Copic Sketch Markers, my collection started to grow rapidly and I was no longer interested in Ciao markers (link at the bottom of the page for Sketch vs Ciao.)  In Canada the price per marker is 7.99  -- the handy Michaels coupons of either 40 or 50% off fed my addiction and on trips to the US or at scrapping events, I would grab colours that Michaels didn't carry.

In the beginning, I tracked colours in a small notebook and then purchased a colour chart book from Curry's - I needed something to keep in m purse that would remind me which colours I had.
